Hello! Where have you been?!! I didn't remember what I had said or why until I re-read your blog!
I have to confess that since then I have been to Vienna and seen the Brueghels, which are also full of signs and references.
Yes, my work takes me to these places so I must admit I am lucky for that. I need to tell myself that today where more…

Well that is very cool - a real live artist/alchemist ;o) Yes it's true that artists have been embedding strange and wonderful symbols and riddles into art ever since Grok the caveman decided to trace his hand on to the walls of Lascaux surrounded by all those mysterious hunt scenes. Was it just to document some prehistoric hunting ritual or was more…

Forgot to say that Bosch was actually commissioned to do this painting for some toff who wanted to put in his boudoir behind the bed - cheeky monkey! You'd never get any sleep - be up all night wondering what was going on in that garden ;o) more…

Wow! now that was an interested and educating read some really interesting stuff in that post.......I had an exhibition entitled Alchemy at the end of 2008, Which was based around turning base metals to gold. I make my work from stainless steel so in some ways there is true alchemical process going on there as I do receive gold in return for my c more…

Saw the Garden of Earthly delights only a week ago in the Prado.
Had difficulty finding it as they call Bosch El Bosco in Spanish! It was the second time I was to see it and I was keen to revisit. But there was a big crowd and all I could see was the detail. But WHAT mad mad mad wonderful detail. What an imagination he had for monstrous and more…

I spent four years living on a Greek island where temperatures frequently ran into the 90's and all I longed for was rain and snow, now back in the UK in the rain all I long for is the warmth of the sunshine... more…

You think England is expensive? You obviously haven't travelled much. Have you been into the land of the Euro. The continent of Europe is nearly as expensive as being in Moscow. Thankfully the UK government decided against the Euro in favour of the £ and that makes us a bit cheaper for you visitors. We love visiting North America for cheap vacation more…

Yes, I've often thought of Australia. A Nice penthouse overlooking Sydney harbour would be rather nice. How high do you think Funnel Web spiders can climb?
Send the book along anytime and I'll review it for the Blogger News Network [which, as you know, is the prime source for all things literary - well apart from the London Review of more…

You should come to Australia. As long as you stay indoors you'll be perfectly safe, oh well, apart from the spiders of course. At least it's warm...
By the way, good to see you back again. I'll be sending you my book soon for review, if you're still keen to see it of course. more…

Well I would agree that there is personal honor as well as individual heroism in war but my point really is that war itself is stupid and insane - especially in today's high-tech world where we are perfectly capable of blowing up the entire world if we have a mind to do so. The young men and women who fought in past wars did their duty as they saw more…

Very good post, thysbe. I must argue that there is honour in war, but, it is the circumstances of that war that matter.
In my opinion soldiers should be for DEFENCE, not attack, there must be honour for those that are prepared to stand up and fight, and possibly die, to defend their country and I believe that is what theses brave young more…

Hey Joe and thanks - well, you know what they say - you're never too old ;o) They tell me that people of all ages - from 12 through 90 walk the Camino so I'm gonna give it a try. And if keeping busy keeps you young then I'm about 14 right now! ha. And this is maybe why I want to go lose myself for a bit - life gets a bit *too* busy at times dont more…

Hi thysbe, an excellent post, interesting. I hope that you stick to your plan for the walk, I occasionally made plans that, for one reason or another, fell through, now it's too late, grab the moment, it doesn't come again.
